Nina Boas invites her audience into a world where giants serve tea, drawings come to life and everyone and everything is part of a music video. Using familiar objects like a pen, paper, and scissors, her narratives delicately unfolds with little surprises and abrupt events happening on the way.
From March of 2011, Boas has been artist-in-resident at STEIM, exploring ways to extend her live performance with new digital tools. Together with Georgios Papadakis, she has developed a video instrument that will be used in a new piece that she will premiere at the Patterns + Pleasure Festival.
Nina Boas (born 1980 Saumur, France, raised in Amsterdam) studied Sculpture at the AKI in Enshede and now lives in Rotterdam. For the last several years, she has been active as a performance artist showing her work internationally, and in numerous venues and institutions such as Flemish cultural house (Brakkegrond) in Amsterdam and in TENT during the ‘ Wereld van de Witte de With festival’ in Rotterdam.
She has made performances in collaboration with choreographs, musicians and dancers. Next to her practice as a performance artist she organizes a yearly performance event called PAE set in Rotterdam. http://www.ninaboas.com
