Note: Hair Stylistics cancelled.
Unfortunately Hair Stylistics from Japan won’t be able to perform at the Patterns + Pleasure festival on Wednesday. But the good news is that Takuma Watanabe will be supported by skronky noise-rock Tomo Yoshida from the band TADZIO.
Takuma Watanabe is an unpredictable, provocative and highly talented musician known for his contemporary music-inspired jazz, luscious film compositions and energetic live performances. When he teamed up with equally provocative and eccentric Hair Stylistics, what came out was a monstrous boogie-woogie noise band – something that you would exactly expect to hear from the late night underground clubs in Tokyo. Only the daring few musicians can keep up with these two – Jim O’Rourke and Otomo Yoshihide’s go-to drummer Tatsuhisa Yamamoto is one of them.
Takuma Watanabe (born in Japan, 1975) is a composer, a piano/keyboard and electronics player. He studied composition in the U.S. where he was Inspired by Fluxus, American folk music and minimalism. After returning to Japan he has focused on his band Combo Piano and also working with Kip Hanrahan , David Sylvian , John McEntire , Jonas Mekas , Masaya Nakahara (Hair Stylistics) , Seichi Yamamoto , Emmett Kelly (cairo gang) , Alfred Harth , Afriranpo , Kazuhisa Uchihashi, Jim O’Rourke , Joan La Barbara ,etc…
In 2007, he was invited as a pianist on David Sylvian “The world is Everything” tour. http://www.takumawatanabe.com
Tatsuhisa Yamamoto (born in Japan 1982) is a pure acoustic drummer playing primarily improvised music, and participates in a variety of bands, projects, and producing multiple recordings. His solo performances are polyrhythmic and melodic, often moving between extreme volume and quite textures. He has regularly collaborates with artists such as Otomo Yoshihide, Jim O’Rourke, Sachiko M, Seiichi Yamamoto (ex.boredoms), Kazuhisa Uchihashi, Keiji Haino, Akira Sakata, Daisuke Takaoka, Makoto Kawabata (AcidMotherTemple), Munehiro Narita(HIGHRISE), Mitsuru Tabata(ZENI-GEVA/AMT&TCI), Masahiko Sato, Yuji Takahashi and his main band is SSW with Eiko Ishibashi and NATSUMEN.
